The Dutch Quarter (Deutschviertel in German) is a neighborhood in the city of Potsdam, located in the state of Brandenburg in Germany. It is called the Dutch Quarter because of its unique architecture, which features red brick buildings with white trim, similar to the style found in the Netherlands. The Dutch Quarter was built in the 18th century, during the reign of King Frederick William I of Prussia, who wanted to attract Dutch immigrants to Potsdam. The Dutch immigrants were skilled craftsmen and tradespeople, and the king hoped that they would help to stimulate the local economy. Today, the Dutch Quarter is a popular tourist attraction, known for its quaint shops, restaurants, and cafes. It is also home to several museums, including the Museum Barberini, which features a collection of Impressionist and Modernist art, and the Potsdam Museum, which tells the history of the city. Visitors to the Dutch Quarter can take a stroll along its narrow streets and alleyways, admire the charming architecture, and enjoy the lively atmosphere of this unique neighborhood.
