While we might be able to discuss mental health today more freely, authoritatively, and be treated for it with relative ease, this wasn't always the case. The Ancient Greeks and Romans may have lacked the language of psychiatry we have today, but the people of those days still represented what we might see as common mental disorders... but in rather different ways. But these ways were fascinating and often very poetic, most prevalently through their myths, legends, religions and early philosophizing. So this video is the first in a two part series exploring mental illnesses and disorders in Antiquity, from ancient Greek myths through the Roman Empire. In this part we discuss myths and religion, and in the next we'll get to the doctors, physiologists and scientists of mental health. If you like our content, follow us on Social Media below!
