A cozy winter vlog about fits and bursts of motivation. Some unfinished home projects, gluten-free comfort food, seasonal foraging, and slow homestead life in Canada. From organizing long-neglected spaces to a sudden burst of energy in the kitchen, this week is all about doing what can be done when the motivation shows up. 🍕 Gluten-free pizza crust recipe used in this video: https://wheatbythewayside.com/best-gl... CRANBERRY GINGER ALE SYRUP Ingredients: 2 cups cranberries (fresh or frozen) 1½ cups water 1 cup sugar About 3 inches fresh ginger, chopped or sliced 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional) Directions Add the cranberries, water, sugar, and ginger to a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook until the cranberries burst and the syrup turns a deep ruby colour, about 10 minutes. Strain through a fine mesh sieve and stir in the vanilla (yes, I added it — I just somehow forgot to film that part… oops). Allow the syrup to cool and thicken before using. To serve: Add a few tablespoons to a glass over ice and top with sparkling water or soda water. I used simple sparkling lime water. You could add a squeeze of lemon or lime to whatever you choose if it doesn't already have flavour. Adjust to taste. This was my first batch and it’s definitely a recipe I’ll keep refining. I’d love to try more cranberries for a deeper tartness and slightly less sugar, or even swapping in honey to see how it changes the flavour. 🌲 The vlog wraps up with a little seasonal foraging around the property to dress the front door for Christmas — just what I needed to refuel after what turned out to be a busy week of fits and bursts.
