Magnolia Falls in Arkansas is a beautiful, accessible waterfall in the Upper Buffalo Wilderness area, known for its unique grotto setting inside a bluff, easy-to-moderate 2-mile trail featuring hoodoos, multiple falls, and a secret grotto, making it a popular spot for year-round hiking, especially stunning with icicles in winter. Located near Pettigrew/Boxley off Highway 16/21, the hike offers connections to other falls like Woods Boys and Stahle Falls. Key Information Location: Upper Buffalo Wilderness Area, near Pettigrew/Boxley, Arkansas, off AR-16/AR-21. Trail Difficulty: Easy to moderate. Trail Length: About 2.1 miles roundtrip (1.25 miles each way). Elevation Gain: Around 226 feet. Features: A wilderness grotto, hoodoos (stacked rock formations), multiple smaller waterfalls, and a secret grotto. Best Time to Visit: Spring for lushness, but winter offers unique beauty with ice formations. Nearby Attractions: Can be combined with hikes to Woods Boys Falls, Hadlock Cascades, and Stahle Falls. For this hike we head off from the gravel road parking space around noon on Thanksgiving Day 2025. It's sunny and around 50 degrees. 4 hours were spent hiking to, hanging out and hiking back, I could have easily spent all day in this area exploring if I didn't have other places I needed to get to!
