Muro village in Nara Prefecture formulated a project called "Muro Art Arcadia Project" in 1997 to take action against a depopulation issue supported by The National Land Agency (Japanese land ministry) and develop the village with a concept that fuses art and public works and to develop the village with the concept that fuses Art and public works. It was inspired by the idea of Japanese sculptor Bukichi INOUE (born in the village, 1930-1997) who had planned to create a museum (Utopia) for the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature. In 1998, Nara Prefecture decided to establish a park to promote local property on the land where measures were taken against landslides. Bukichi INOUE's concept (died suddenly in 1997) was realized by Israeli sculptor Dani Karavan (he visited the village for the first time in 1998, and the plan was designed in 2001). The Muro Art Forest was officially inaugurated in June 2006. The entire park is regarded as a sculptural masterpiece by Dani Karavan within the landscape, preserving elements of a rural landscape such as forests or terraced rice fields, seamlessly blending art and nature. The park is called “Art Forest”. Feel nature and the time passing slowly, hear birds chirping, see the leaves change color, all things that you can do in this quiet place.
