Deaf Role Model- Kanika Agarwal Congratulations to Kanika Aggarwal for receiving a National Award- hats off to your inspiring journey! Kanika’s journey is truly inspiring. She lost her hearing in 7th grade but continued studying in a hearing school, eventually completing her MSc. Her life transformed when she connected with the Deaf community, where she discovered sign language, Deaf culture, and her true identity as a Deaf person. As a teacher, Kanika has empowered many Deaf children and adults, helping them secure jobs and guiding fellow teachers in improving their methodologies. Her dedication to Deaf Education extends to research and innovative teaching practices. Kanika is also the first Deaf author to contribute to 3 published books, a groundbreaking achievement. She is passionately advocating for publishers to translate books into Indian Sign Language (ISL), ensuring better access for Deaf readers. She has inspired many through her presentations at events like TEDx and the National Summit 2023, where she shared her incredible journey. Kanika’s vision is a future where Deaf individuals can access a wide variety of books and knowledge in ISL. Her efforts in education, literature, and advocacy continue to break barriers and create change.
