Part I of the MAUK Inter-generational Dialogues on Cultural Resilience. The purpose of this series is to create a dialogue between different generations of Fijians in the UK about culture and what cultural resilience means to them. Through these sessions we explore questions such as: Can you briefly share with us your experience of growing up in the UK as a Fijian, and whether/how you have held onto your cultural identity. What experience have you had with the generations before in terms of helping with cultural resilience? How do you think intergenerational dialogues on this topic can be improved? MAUK is hoping to create a safe space whereby our guests are able to share their thoughts/perspectives/experiences whilst others listen in. "Cultural resilience is the capability of a cultural system (consisting of cultural processes in relevant communities) to absorb adversity, deal with change and continue to develop. Cultural resilience thus implies both continuity and change: disturbances that can be absorbed are not an enemy to be avoided but a partner in the dance of cultural sustainability (adapted from Thiele) Session 1: Age: 18 - 29 years old Panellists: Brittney Nainoca, Tiko Seru & Peniasi Rokobuli Host: Sainimili Kata Rockett (MAUK Committee Member) This video was recorded from a Zoom call that was shared live on the Marama Alliance Facebook page on 8th September 2020.
