Unhinged 18-Year-Old Assaults 2 Police Officers and Gets Placed in "The Wrap"

On September 10, 2024, Las Cruces Police Officers were dispatched to assist Probation Officers in conducting a welfare check on an 18-year-old woman. Officers located the woman standing outside of her parents' house. When Officers attempted to engage her in conversation, she indicated she was not willing to speak with them. Officer Ramirez attempted to speak with the woman's mother and father, but the conversation was interrupted when the woman attempted to strike Officer Ramirez with a metal water container. The woman was then taken down to the ground using a controlled hold. She was handcuffed and arrested. It was decided to place the woman in "The Wrap" restraint device. When Lieutenant Savage attempted to seat belt the restrained woman in the back of the patrol car, the woman headbutted him. Due to the Use of Force, she was taken to the hospital for medical clearance before being transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
