Royal film Performance of "Beau Brummell" with Stewart Granger & Elizabeth Taylor. Cinema hoarding Leicester Sq. at night. Crowds outside behind barriers. Limo's arriving and fans waving and watching. WS as celebrities enter the Empire foyer. Those identified are, Jean Simmons and Stewart Granger, Jack Warner and wife Mary Bell, Freddie Mills, Janette Scott and Susan Stephens, John Mills and wife, Jane Russell, Peter Ustinov and Peter Finch. The Royal arrival includes the Queen and Prince Philip and Princess Margaret. In the foyer the Queen shakes hands with Reginald Bromhead and other film chiefs also seen was C.J. Latta. LS stars lined up awaiting the Queen. Royal party walking up stairs to lounge where the Queen and Philip shake hands with the stars. Brenda de Banzie, Valentina Cortesa, Granger and Jean Simmons, Jack Hawkins, John Gregson, Anna Neagle, Peter Finch, Michael Redgrave, Peter Ustinov and Shelley Winters. In the projection box the projectionist prepares the film. The Queen receives flowers and the Royal party stand infront of their seats in the cinema with the audience behind them, CA to projectionist, the Royal party seated with the audience clapping them, fade to black. On screen is "Tonight in Britain" Night scenes of cars in Piccadilly, a montage of West End theatres and crowds seated. A master of ceremonies waves a hammer and a perky girl starts playing the piano. WS from back of audience as the curtains open to reveal Hattie Jaques on stage in music hall costume singing and dancing. VG shots of the audience singing along. Smart crowd in night club in evening dress. The small band begins to play as the singer trips lightly down a stair case. The camera tracks in as she sings. The title "Melody" introduces an animated film about singing birds who fly into a classroom and are given a lesson by a piano playing owl. Exterior night shot of the Empire as a limo arrives. The Queen, Philip and Princess Margaret say goodbye and drive away. As the they leave the camera tilts up to the illuminated "Beau Brummell" cinema hoarding.
