We’re officially closing the book on How to Change by Katy Milkman. In this final episode of the series, Dr. Karen McGregor — higher education thought leader, adult learner advocate, and student success strategist — reflects on the biggest takeaways from the book and introduces her Notes in the Margins Book Scorecard. In this wrap-up, I share how I evaluate professional development books using four lenses: ⭐ Readability / Listenability ⭐ Credibility ⭐ Relatability ⭐ Adult Learner / Higher Ed Transfer Because not every good book translates into good institutional design — and part of this channel is doing that translation work together. We also revisit an important tension in the book’s framing around “barriers” like impulsivity, procrastination, and laziness — and why deficit language matters when we’re talking about the students we serve. If you’ve been following the full series, thank you. If you’re just joining — welcome to Notes in the Margins. 📚 Learn more about the book here: Katy Milkman — How to Change: https://www.katymilkman.com/home-01
