We repair to component level this Kenwood TS2000 radio which will not transmit on any HF or VHF Frequency, However UHF works, We explore the circuit diagram & make detailed measurements & walk & talk the process in locating the fault to specific components, We are sidetracked by a blown fuse, which when researched on the internet appears to indicate chemical residue as part of the manufacture cleaning process causes a short & blows the fuse, we later find out insofar as this radio is concerned that is NOT the fault. We then remove the suspect components 2SC1971 & 2X 2SC1972 bipolar RF transistors & test them individually to confirm which had failed, this is a strange fault. Having ordered new components we install them then carry out extensive alignments & RF measurements of all the modes & on HF & VHF. We also discuss making peak RF power measurements on SSB modes.
