In the busy center of Suva, Hope Clinic stands as a living testimony to what compassion and faith can accomplish. Built with the help of a Thirteenth Sabbath Offering, the clinic is more than a medical facility—it is a place where lives are restored. For many who walk through its doors, healing touches not only the body but also the heart. One of those lives belongs to Mereseini, a 53-year-old woman who had struggled for years with high blood pressure. She did everything she was told—regular doctor visits, daily medication, careful monitoring. Yet nothing seemed to change. Her numbers stayed high. The exhaustion remained. Slowly, her strength slipped away. “I felt stuck,” she remembered. “No matter what I did, nothing improved.” Hoping for something different, Mereseini decided to visit Hope Clinic. She wasn’t sure what she would find. “I just wanted to feel better,” she said. What she discovered surprised her. The staff didn’t rush her or simply adjust her prescription. They listened. They explained. They encouraged. Among them was Dr. Akuila, whose steady assurance gave her confidence. He spoke about the body’s ability to heal when supported by simple, natural lifestyle changes. “No salt, no meat, no processed food,” he advised gently. “Choose what grows from the ground. Your body wants to recover—it just needs your cooperation.” The changes sounded challenging, but something inside Mereseini responded with hope. She went home and began immediately. The salt shaker disappeared. Meat, white rice, cassava, and taro were removed from her kitchen. In their place came sweet potatoes, plantains, fresh vegetables, and fruits. Then came an even greater challenge: a 10-day water fast, with lemon water for support. Many would hesitate, but Mereseini made her decision firmly. Looking at herself, she said, “I’m doing this—for me.” She fasted quietly, without drawing attention. She continued cooking for her children but stepped away at mealtimes to pray instead of eat. “I asked God to give me strength,” she said. As the days passed, her children noticed the physical changes. “Mum, you’re losing too much weight,” one said anxiously. “You need to eat.” “I will,” she answered gently. “Just not yet.” Surprisingly, she didn’t feel weak. She cleaned, walked, and prayed. Rather than hunger, she felt purpose. “Before, when I fasted for one day, I counted the hours,” she said with a smile. “But this time was different. I knew why I was doing it.” At the end of the ten days, she returned to Hope Clinic for evaluation. The nurses were astonished as they checked her vitals. Her blood pressure was normal. Her pulse steady. Her weight healthy. “I didn’t take my medication during the fast,” she told them. “And I haven’t needed it since.” Today, Mereseini continues her plant-based lifestyle—free from salt, meat, and processed foods. Sweet potatoes, plantains, greens, and fruits fill her plate. But the greatest transformation is not just physical. “I go back to church,” she said. “I pick up my grandchildren from school. I walk without being tired. I feel alive again.” With quiet conviction, she shares what she has learned. “We must be careful about what we eat. God gave us food to bring healing, not harm. I’m not forcing anyone—but I’ve experienced the difference. When we trust God and care for our bodies, change happens.” Hope Clinic offered Mereseini more than treatment. It gave her knowledge, courage, and a new beginning. Her journey shows that healing often starts with a willing heart—one ready to listen, to believe, and to act. #HopeClinic #SuvaFiji #ThirteenthSabbathOffering #HealthReform #FaithAndHealing #PlantBasedLiving #NaturalHealing #TrustGod #LifestyleChange #MissionImpact #SouthPacificMission #AdventistMission #HealingJourney #ChooseHealth #HopeIsReal
