This cocktail is attributed to Brit William J. Tarling who first published it in the Cafe Royale Cocktail Book in 1937. The drink was named after a rail line which stretched between Chicago and New York called The Twentieth Century Limited which ran for 65 years. This line was immensely important because trains were the most civilized way to travel at this point in history and this particular line became famous for luxury. First off ticket holders would tread across a red carpet to get on the train and it is believed that the term "Red Carpet Treatment" was coined for this reason. The train also boasted a Library, single occupancy sleeping berths and in house maid service. Note On The Gin Used: No. 3, like Beefeater is a very classic style London dry Gin, and although they have many ingredients in common they're not fully interchangeable although they are both very good in this drink. The main difference is that No. 3 has Cardamom in it's flavor profile and uses orange peel and Grapefruit for citrus as opposed to Beefeater which uses Lemon Peel. here's links to the tools I'm using in this episode: Barfly Copper Measuring Cup: https://amzn.to/2BA24Yk Barfly Shaking Set: https://amzn.to/2OYG0w4 Barfly Hawthorn Strainer: https://amzn.to/2OkFZ8v Barfly Fine Strainer: https://amzn.to/2RaFkoS Mercer Culinary Y Peeler Set: https://amzn.to/2SypZP8 The Cafe Royale Cocktail Book: https://amzn.to/2Wn4cvb Libbey 5.5oz Coupe: https://amzn.to/2szIHdQ If you guys want to check out our full amazon store you can do so here: https://www.amazon.com/shop/theeducat...
