It has been almost two months since President Museveni was declared by the Electoral Commission as the winner of the 2026 presidential elections. Museveni was the NRM flag bearer in the race that attracted eight candidates. He secured 71.65 percent support to win his seventh term in office. His closest challenger, Robert Kyagyulanyi Ssentamu, a National Unity Platform candidate, received 24.72 percent of the vote, according to EC results. The NRM campaigned on the slogan of "protecting the gains" in health, education, security, infrastructure development, regional cooperation, and poverty alleviation programmes, among other promises. Mildred Pedun spoke to Fred Bahati, who led a voluntary team of campaigners known as the NRM Voluntary Standby Task Force. The team that compiled a report after the campaigns believes that, as much as a lot has been attained, there are glaring shortcomings in service delivery that need special attention in Museveni's next term.
