After recently tracking what will become my third Instar single, I had a smidgeon of free time to knock this out. As always, these parts are old as hell (mid-2008 being the last draft). The track I layered underneath is the original demo from the Bulb Soundclick page; this is what I used to write my parts, so occasionally you'll hear 'artifacts' of the programmed drums peeking through. I used my 13" rack tom and did something a little different with my crashes; I used my 17" A Custom and paired it with an 18" K Dark Crash Thin - y'know, for science. Sounds cool! The heads are the same from the Instar single: Vintage coated Emperor on the rack, coated Emperor on the floor, Controlled Sound X on the snare. Notes: 0:15 - 0:29 - ghosts and tom-toms fill in most 16th gaps; every tom-tom strike is a single stroke, so the orchestration is dictated by where the note fell in relation to the backbeat and the amount of sequential rests 0:34 - brief freak-out 0:59 - 1:06 - 3-8 metric modulation 1:43 - 1:49 - snare purports a half-time feel even though the riff is in 7 1:50 - brief 8th-note displacement bridge/guitar solo - the quick ride bow/bell transitions were inspired by Garibaldi 2:28 - brief 16th-note displacement 2:35 - although absent in my draft, I always played these spurts in rehearsals and the few times we performed it live for fun 2:55 - this stop was a random idea I had to highlight some potential vocals (since I wrote the parts when we were without a vocalist, heh) If you'd like to purchase an isolated drum movie for this, please visit: http://travisorbin.bigcartel.com/prod...
