42' Powerboat "Off Duty" VS Ferrari 348 TS - The Comanche Era

The Italian speed of a Ferrari 348 TS versus the Comanche power of ‘Off Duty’ – an all-out sprint to glory! Miami to Key West...featured in Powerboat Magazine’s July 1993 print and written by Lisa Nordskog, this was quite the endeavor. Off Duty had personality to its power due to its owner Fred Kiekhaefer, President of Mercury Racing and son of Mercury’s founder, Carl Kiekhaefer. Fred was extremely hands-on with the creation of Off Duty, and Mark McManus was determined to make his dream a reality. All mockups were designed by Fred himself until arriving at his final choice, which he painted as well. He had obvious decisions like Mercury 800 SC engines, and more lavish ones like a custom swim platform hammock. What made this powerboat even more unique was Fred’s secret language of laser-engraved caricatures seen across the entire dashboard, and even appearing in the engine room.
