Carthropology interviews an owner of a 1984, 4 wheel drive AMC Eagle station wagon. This "survivor" is the car of choice for Tim, a ski instructor in Sun Valley, who travels everyday to the snowy ski slopes in Idaho. While a sedan configuration, the car might be arguably one of the first “Luxury SUVs. It came loaded with power leather seats, power windows, cruise control and remote control mirrors. With the benefit of hindsight, one is surprised how well outfitted, comfortable and road worthy Tim's car is. The car, almost 30 years old, anticipates todays car market. A market that is oriented around SUVs whose main focus is comfort, ruggedness and convenience... This report is a tribute to the scrappy, innovative and fearless AMC. AMC backed "big ideas " that underscored its willingness to punch far beyond its weight. The AMC Eagle cars were "a big idea". They were perhaps ahead of their time. AMC was bought by Chrysler in 1987, but its demise was not for lack of originality, foresight or imagination, as you will see in this report.
