Rock-like Faith of Kandhamal: Anto Akkara presents finest witness to Christ in Indian history.

In 2008, Kandhamal jungles of eastern Odisha state witnessed the worst organized persecution in Indian history. When Christianity was ‘banned’ in Kandhamal, nearly 100 Christians embraced martyrdom refusing to recant their faith. With over 300 churches desecrated and 6,000 Christian houses torched and looted, 56,000 thousand had to seek shelter in jungles and in slums outside Kandhamal. Some feared the poor Christians would not stand this brutal persecution. But nothing could crush their faith as you read in Romans 8: 35 “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?” They held on to their precious faith in hostile conditions --- living in cubicles built of leaves, and broken houses, attending open-air Masses and ordination of Pastors on hillsides and even ‘doubled’ Mission Sunday collection when they were penniless and homeless - with generous donation from token compensation.
