For donations please click on the "support" button on the right side of the main channel page:    / vipertech30813   The vehicle that we have in the shop today is a 2013 Dodge Dart. The problem with the vehicle has been checked and the issue is the Smart Drive Unit (SDU). There was a code that was active in the transmission control module (TCM) that stated that the pump was stuck in the off state. It took some checking and eventually the problem was determined be the SDU as mentioned before. The SDU is part of the operation of the transmission. The way the transmission works on this vehicle is that the trans itself is basically a manual trans but with out a clutch pedal or stick shift inside the vehicle. Internally its the same but externally everything is controlled by a hydraulic pump that is controlled by the TCM and the SDU. The TCM is the brains of the operation while the SDU serves only one purpose in life....to turn the hydraulic pump on. Its nothing more then a solid state relay in theory. The SDU has the normal relay feeds such as 12 volts and ground. As well as a commend circuit from the TCM as well as a diagnostic circuit that the TCM monitors to see if there are any issues with the SDU not performing its job. Then there are the 2 circuits that go to the hydraulic pump which are the ground and 12 volt circuit. Which if you understand basic relays....you will see simularities. The SDU is mounted to the front corner of the battery tray just in front of the battery itself. The module has 2x 10mm bolts and one connector. The SDU slides into the mount using 2 fingers that go into the battery tray assembly and the 2x 10mm bolts keep it fastened in place. The connector has a single stage lock that is red in color and slides outward until it clicks into the fully release position. As it is slide outward, the connector pulls away from the SDU. Reinstalling the new SDU is nothing special. Its just the opposite of the removal of the old unit. Its a plug and play design meaning that nothing else needs to be done with the module once installed such as programming. All that needs to be done is clear the old code and start the vehicle and varify the trans operation and make sure no codes return.
