Hey guys! Today I share my first quick impressions of the Odin 3. I briefly talk about the specifications, the design and my concerns with the new chip. It’s running the new Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. RAM options range from 8 GB up to 24 GB. Storage goes from 256 GB to 1 TB, depending on the model. You’re getting a 6-inch Full HD OLED display. The battery is 8,000 mAh. It weighs around 380 grams. It includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Android 15. Now, let’s talk about the device itself. From a design perspective, I still personally prefer the look of the Odin 2 Portal. For some reason, that model just feels a bit more premium to me. So if I had the Odin 2 Portal right now, I’d probably wait for the Odin 3 Portal before upgrading. When it comes to performance, the Snapdragon 8 Elite looks very promising. Early tests from creators like Russ at Retro Game Corps show a significant improvement over the chipset in the Odin 2. This extra power is especially nice if you like upscaling games to 4K, or if you plan to run some PC titles on Android. Of course, because this is a brand-new chip, it doesn’t yet have all the drivers that were developed for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the Odin 2. And that might cause some issues when trying to emulate systems like the Nintendo Switch. That’s something to keep an eye on. Another thing worth considering is the price. The Ultra model is over 500 dollars, and the Max sits around 450. At that price point, depending on your needs, it might make more sense to look at a handheld PC like the Steam Deck or the ROG Ally.
