#KWTX - Joshua Chappell, 24, was arrested early Wednesday morning after he “recklessly” pointed an AR-15 rifle at a man and a woman sitting across from him in a living room, fatally shooting the man after the rifle “went off,” police wrote in an arrest warrant affidavit. The shooting happened inside a residence in the 2400 Block of S. 21st St. around 12:20 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a 24-year-old Tyreese Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest area. Police say he was pronounced dead at the scene and his family was notified. Police at the scene spoke with two witnesses. The first witness told police she was sitting next to Johnson in a couch across from Chappell. The woman said Chappell pointed the semiautomatic rifle in Johnson’s direction while “making gun noises” with his mouth, the arrest warrant states. “The rifle then went off, striking Johnson,” police further wrote in the affidavit. The woman immediately sought the assistance of another woman who was in the house, but sleeping at the time. They performed CPR while paramedics arrived at the home. When police arrived, Chappell told the officers “he was sorry” for what happened and that he “knew what he did,” the arrest warrant states. Chappell is being held at the McLennan County Jail on a charge of manslaughter, a second-degree felony. His bond amount has not yet been set. #JoshuaChappell #TyreeseJohnson #WacoTexas #Manslaughter #WacoPoliceDepartment
