This September, the Singapore Association for Mental Health (SAMH) celebrates 10 years of the SAMH Creative Services, which uses visual arts, writing, music and dance as tools for prevention and intervention in mental health, on the cognitive, emotional and social levels. In this mini-series, the Gallery invited humans of SAMH to share their personal mental health stories. Through the lens of artworks in our National Collection, they reflect on their journeys with mental illness, recovery, and emotional resilience. What does art have to do with mental health? In this episode, Jane, Senior Assistant Director of Creative Services at SAMH, takes a closer look at how to help people achieve mental wellness. Through Choy Weng Yang’s Horizontals I, she shares more about the meticulous work that goes into the community building and arts programming of SAMH’s Creative Services. -- Art in 90 Seconds brings you personal stories about the works of National Gallery Singapore, told by humans of the Gallery. At times funny, at times raw, and at times maybe even a bit spooky, these vignettes are a heartfelt, present-day take on the Southeast Asian art that hangs on our walls. English subtitles and Singapore Sign Language interpretation are included in all videos. This content was filmed in 2021. The artworks on display are subject to change. #NationalGallerySingapore #LetArtSupportSG #ArtIn90Seconds #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness
