What do we mean by the words rational and reason?

In this video I explain why it is that I like to work with slightly newer definitions of the words rational and reason compared to the traditional definitions. In particular, in the video I define reason as our ability to organise and explain our thinking and say that our thinking is rational if it is supported by the use of calculations. This explicitly links rationality to mathematics and computation as well as to logic. I also show how these slightly newer definitions can give us some simplified, but useful conceptions of both modernism and postmodernism.
