@dsourceindia Jamkhana (Dhurrie or Dari) in the local language means floor covering mats, which are usually widely used during marriages and functions (ceremonies) and in homes during occasions. Navalgund Dhurrie (cotton Dhurrie) is well known for its excellence in quality of its structure, originality of colour, and form that makes it unique from other types of floor coverings and mats. Artisan believes, this craft originated from the time of Ali Adil Shah, the king of Bijapur of Karnataka. In the sixteenth century, during the tussle between the Deccan Sultanate and the Vijayanagar Empire in 1565 AD, Jamkhana weavers migrated from Bijapur to the Navalgund of Karnataka and continued making this craft.
