In this fly tying tutorial I cover some useful parts of fly tying for anyone looking to learn to tie trout flies. To start with, the anatomy of a hook and then I work through different patterns, starting with a simple Chironomid (buzzer) pupa and go over other patterns you would expect to see higher up in the water column, finally finishing on a dry fly. I cover, the anatomy of different types of trout fly patterns a beginner to fly tying would come across and perhaps learn to tie. I also go into detail on the proportions I typically look to have when tying flies. Although it is aimed to help beginner fly tyers, there is some content I am sure seasoned tyers may find useful. This is part of as series I decided to put together with fly tying tutorials to help beginners to learn to fly tie for trout. Some of the stuff in this series may be text book, some may not. This is based on my experienced of fly tying which has developed over more than a decade of tying trout flies. Over the years I've spent a lot of time studying fly tying, have an interest in macroinvertebrates and have been a keen angler from a young age. All of which has contributed to how I like to tie trout flies. I hope you find this series helpful and informative and never lose sight of the joy the wonderful world of fly tying has to offer.
