This is a playthrough using Karai in the Genesis/Mega Drive version of TMNT: Tournament Fighters. Read on below for more information... Karai is the 3rd and final boss in the game. She is an unplayable character. ===== ABOUT KARAI ===== Karai is a character who has appeared in the TMNT comics and in several other media as a high-ranking member of Shredder's Foot Clan. She is supposedly Shredder's disciple and adopted daughter. Her allegiance (to the heroes or villains) varies between the media. In the Genesis/Mega Drive version of TTF, her design is very different to the SNES version of Karai, as she's more "feminine" in this one. As the Genesis game aims for a 'less flamboyant' style, her moves aren't as crazy or dramatic as the SNES Karai. Under CPU control, she is the hardest character to beat by far in the game, contracting a serious case of 1990's SNK Boss Syndrome. ===== ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ===== ---- She does not seem to have a Desperation Move. ---- When she is highlighted on the character select screen, there are some minor graphic faults. This is obviously because she isn't meant to be selected in the game. Her name text appears perfectly though. ---- When you confirm her on the character screen, it uses the voice sound saying "seven". ---- Surprisingly, if a mirror match occurs then one Karai will actually have a proper alternative colour palette. This suggests that she may have been originally intended to be a playable character. ---- Because the game has no individual character endings, you can complete the game with Karai with no problems. ---- Her stage background cannot be selected on the stage select screens that appear in the game. ---- In the Japanese version of the game, the beetle creature character is called Musha Beetle instead of Sisyphus. ---- Regarding the American box art for the game, on the back side of it there are screen shots which show Triceraton and Krang's Android being supposedly controlled by human players, which suggests that the pictures may have been taken from an early in-development version of the game. Obviously this isn't legitimately possible in the final version of the game. ---- The European version of the game is called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles: Tournament Fighters. ===== ABOUT GENESIS TTF ===== Konami aims for a more "conservative" and "less flamboyant" style for the Genesis version of the game, it is completely different to the SNES one. The SNES version is obviously the more stylish game (and plays better, in my view), but don't let that put you off - the Genesis TFF has it's own unique charms and features of it's own. The unplayable bosses in this game deserves a special mention for how "complete" and "finished" the characters are (even having 2P colour palettes) when alternate methods are used to select them for player control. It seems that in development they were planned to become selectable characters (regular or via hidden input), but for some reason the decision was omitted... possibly due to time constraints. Back then, a rumour was that they didn't have enough time to draw their character images on the character select screen... this is unconfirmed of course.
