How India’s cow protection laws are hurting its dairy industry | BBC News India

Since the cow is revered by the majority Hindu community in India, beef in banned in most parts of the country and cow slaughter is punishable by law. But these laws are not just cracking down on those buying, transporting, and selling cows for meat. They are also targeting those in India’s dairy industry - the largest in the world. The BBC's Ishadrita Lahiri and Antariksh Jain travelled 1,500 kms across the country speaking to the various stakeholders of this industry. They found that harassment by the police while transporting cows is hurting business and injecting a sense of fear in the hearts of the people in it. The police denied to respond to us.
