I've strained a LOT of wood in my 40 plus years of woodworking and I've learned Flood and Wipe when combined with periodic wipe and check saturation peaks will assure deep, rich, vibrant coloration with amazing grain patterns. On the first coat we simply flood the surface and wipe at the first signs of dry spots. Don't worry I show you how to use the technique on vertcal surfaces as well. If you're happy with the result we stop there but in my experience two coats are necessary. By the way, you should never apply more than two caots of any stain as wood tends to regurgitate excess stain in the future. This belching of stain can destroy the final clear finish and ruin your project. In the second coat we need to assure the color we are seeking is happening. Here I teach you to do periodic wipe and checks on small areas. This is done without removing a lot of stain.
