Lisvane & Thornhill Station is located on the Rhymney Valley Line between Cardiff Central and Rhymney itself: The station and services here are both managed and operated by Transport For Wales; services here operate up to three times a hour in each direction throughout the week; services on a Sunday operate twice hourly in each direction; with services heading towards Cardiff or towards Rhymney, with one service an hour terminating at Caerphilly Before 2021 services on the line were operated Class 142/143 and Class 150 Diesel Multiple Units and the occasional Class 37 with coaches; since the start of 2021 both Class 142 and Class 143's as well as the Class 37ls have been withdrawn from services on the route. Class 150's still operate along here; occasional Class 153 Diesel Multiple Units make appearances here and also finally the Class 769 Diesel Multiple Unit also operated services along the route; the Class 769's being converted for use from old Class 319 Electric Multiple Units. The Class 769's in question have only been brought in for use as a stock gap before brand new Class 756 Diesel Multiple Units are set to operate along the route; replacing the current rolling stock; as part of the Transport For Wales investment deal into the Welsh Rail Network; starting from 2020
