It is located 104 km from Ioannina, 349 km from Thessaloniki and 361 km from Athens. The Aktio-Preveza Immersed Tunnel, the only undersea tunnel in Greece, completed in 2002, connects the two towns. The ruins of the ancient city of Nicopolis are 7 km north of Preveza. Near the modern city, the famous King Pyrrhus of Epirus established the town of Berenike in 290 BC. Preveza is a town with a very rich history with great Ancient, Venetian and Ottoman sights to visit.
