Zombo District Battles Alarming Surge in Teenage Pregnancies Zombo District is facing an alarming rise in teenage pregnancies, with over 9,000 cases reported between 2021 and 2025. Health records show that 5 out of every 100 secondary school girls become pregnant each school term. Local leaders and health officials are raising concern, attributing the surge to entrenched cultural practices and widespread economic hardship. Samuel Ocaki, the District Community Development Officer, revealed that in the last financial year alone, 3,681 of the 13,961 pregnancies recorded involved teenagers—nearly double Uganda’s national average of 14%.
