Hello 👋🏾 from the border of Austria with Switzerland and Liechtenstein! Today, I am in Feldkirch, a small town at the westernmost point of Austria! It’s a beautiful city with pristine nature and a cool, rainy summer! 🌳My Story with Feldkirch: Part 1) Traveling from Vienna to Feldkirch by Train: When I was a student, one of my professors always said to travel from Austria to Switzerland by train or bus, or by car, because of the amazing scenery! I did that and felt like I was in paradise! However, that same professor also advised me to take the train or bus from Amsterdam to Brussels—another beautiful place—so that will be part of my future plans! Part 2) 7 AM: I decided to head to a special location in the beautiful heights of Feldkirch. This town is situated at the foot of a mountain, and you can climb stairs to get to the upper parts of the town and see it from above! However, for me, since my feet were already sore at the beginning of the trip, it became much harder! Despite the pain in my feet, my adventurous spirit kept me going until I reached Himmelsstiege! From here, I had to climb stairs to the upper points of this beautiful mountain town. Everything looked like a painting; beautiful nature with charming houses! Now, let’s learn a bit about this town: 🇦🇹 Feldkirch: Feldkirch is a charming town located in western Austria, near the borders of Switzerland and Liechtenstein. It serves as the capital of the Feldkirch District in Vorarlberg and is known for its medieval architecture and scenic beauty, situated along the banks of the Rhine River. Key Attractions: 1. Burg Schattenburg: A 13th-century castle offering panoramic views and a museum dedicated to local history. 2. Old Town: Features narrow streets, quaint shops, and cafés with a blend of Gothic and Baroque architecture. 3. Nature and Outdoors: Surrounded by the Alps, it's popular for hiking, skiing, and mountain biking. 4. Cultural Events: Hosts various festivals celebrating local traditions and arts. 5. Proximity: An ideal base for day trips to nearby attractions in Austria, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. Overall, Feldkirch combines history, culture, and natural beauty, making it a picturesque destination in the heart of the Alps. 🐱Katzenturm: History and Purpose: Built in 1507 as part of the city's fortifications under Emperor Maximilian I, it served as a defense tower. Dimensions: This eight-story, cylindrical tower stands approximately 40 meters high. Bell Tower: In the 17th century, it was rebuilt as a bell tower, housing the "Maria Rochus" bell, which is the largest in Vorarlberg, weighing around 8.5 tons. Name Origin: The origin of the name "Katzenturm" (Cat Tower) is debated, but one theory suggests it came from the heavy artillery decorated with lion heads (colloquially "cats") that the tower once housed. Landmark Significance: It is a prominent landmark in Feldkirch, especially for those traveling to Liechtenstein or Switzerland, as it stands along a busy federal road. #feldkirch #vaduz #switzerlandbeauty #austria #liechtenstein #liechtensteinischeslandesmuseum #travelvlog #travel
