Fôret du Day is a dry juniperous forest tucked away in the mountains of Djibouti and would never been visited by birders if it wasn't for the endemic, critically endangered Djibouti Francolin (Pternistis ochropectus) that lives only here. When turning up the rocky, unsignposted track from the coastal road one has no idea where one's heading. The hillsides only have barren little bushes - it's only about 30 kms into the track that juniper bushes begin to appear and finally there's a dry forest, spread over a few valleys, where wood is cut on a daily basis by the local people ...
