The Eureka & Palisade only operates during Rail-fest every year. I was lucky enough to run into this train on the way back into durango depot. I also came across the Galloping Goose as well. I don't have any video to share this year but enjoy this video. If you liked it, feel free to comment and rate the video. (The Locomotive Eureka & Palisade #4, known simply as the Eureka, is a great attraction during Railfest. Locomotives like the Eureka that were designed in the early days of the west were colorful and brightly decorated. With its brass and copper fittings, polished walnut cab, and gold lettering, the Eureka may be the most photogenic narrow gauge locomotive in existence. The Baldwin Locomotive works built the beautiful wood-burning locomotive in 1875, and sent it to Nevada along the transcontinental railroad. It was used on the Eureka & Palisade line in central Nevada that operated between the two towns, Eureka and Palisade, from 1875 until 1901. It was then sold to a lumber company near Lake Tahoe that used the locomotive until 1939. The engine was then sent to San Francisco where it was to be sold for scrap but was saved by a Warner Brothers Studio employee for use as a movie prop. The Eureka was used in movies and television until 1976, and appeared in the last John Wayne movie "The Shootist." It was featured in a Ken Burnes documentary "The West." Dan Markoff of Las Vegas, Nevada, purchased the locomotive after it was severely damaged-literally a hulk of iron and wheels-in a fire at a tourist resort in Nevada. The painstaking restoration project took six years.)
