This video is one stage of a 13-part series walking the entire Wye Valley Walk to celebrate the path’s 50th anniversary. The route and walks were planned by Ruth Waycott of Wye National Landscape, author of the brand-new Cicerone guidebook to the Wye Valley Way. A core group of around a dozen walkers completed the entire trail, with more than 100 joining various stages. I was lucky enough to become the group’s honorary videographer—capturing each day from the path. I planned to walk up to the summit of Plynlimon, across to the source and then join the Wye Valley Way and walk toi the fiurst village. Problem was I chose about the grimmest day to do it on. I made it to the summit but no further on my first attempt and then had a scary e-bike ride back to Llangurig. I returned. It snowed! Undeterred I did the first stage of the Wye Valley Way and loved it, and I was hooked. The mountain to sea adventure, solo-style, or so I thought, was very much on. I had a crisis in the late afternoon that required some choice language to be deployed. You have been warned! Here is the route I took: https://explore.osmaps.com/route/2418.... Note I had to dodge the last climb as it had got too dark! I was dropped off here: Hafren Forest car park SY18 6PT or what3words location ///pasting.grumbling.tadpole - for the start and walked back to my car here in Llangurig: i parked just down the lane behind the PO at SY18 6SG or what3words location ///clubbing.texts.hiring. Both car parks are free.
