Population health is a focus within the public health field that is concerned with the health experiences and outcomes of a group. It is an approach to health that aims to improve the health of an entire population rather than considering the health and obstacles to optimal health of solely individuals. Health disparities are preventable differences in the burden of disease, injury, violence, healthcare access, treatment outcomes, and average age of death that are experienced by marginalized populations. The lack of equitable access to care, bias, systemic racism, lack of culturally competent care and yes, your zip code (the zip code effect) play a role in despair health outcomes. We must cultivate a paradigm shift in the delivery of healthcare services from transactional to transformational. Through the sharing of personal experiences and relatable stories Dr LaTrice D. Snodgrass arms the audience with essential information to build upon their knowledge base regarding societal factors impacting overall health status. The goal is to help the listener understand that racial inequities look the same across systems and socioeconomic differences do not always explain those inequities. The audience will leave empowered to engage and channel their efforts more effectively as a healthcare advocate for equity and the eradication of race-based health disparities. Health justice is not an “Us against Them” problem, but instead our problem. Dr. LaTrice D. Snodgrass is a published author, motivational speaker, certified transformation coach, certified Grief Recovery Method Specialist, Intercultural Development Inventory Qualified Administrator, Mental Health First Aid Trainer and the Founder and President of Equity House Consulting Firm. She works full time as a Principal Operational Strategist at MetroHealth. In addition, she serves as an Adjunct Professor and Doctoral Research Chair at Indiana Wesleyan University.
