Junior Dagar Brothers: Nasir Zahiruddin and Nasir Faiyazuddin Dagar: Marwa

Zahiruddin Dagar (1933–1994) and Faiyazuddin Dagar(1934–1989) were the 19th generation of an unbroken chain of the Dagarvani Dhrupad tradition, which is said to include Haridas Dagar, who famously taught Tansen, the famed singer in emperor Akbar's court. Their father, the vocalist Nasiruddin Dagar, died in 1936. They learned the traditional singing from their elder brothers, the Senior Dagar Brothers, Nasir Moinuddin Dagar (1921–1966) and Nasir Aminuddin Dagar (1923-2000). As the only pair carrying on the jugalbandi singing, they came to be known as the Junior Dagar brothers. This recording of this live performance in Paris in 1983 ranks as a stunning exposition of this art form. It has not been commercially available for long.
