Epic Cadillac Mountain Sunrise | Acadia National Park

This morning started before the crack of dawn—2:15 AM to be exact. My goal was to make it up Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park before the first light broke the horizon. A few map issues slowed me down, but I still made it in time to watch one of the most breathtaking sunrises in the United States. Cadillac Mountain is the first place the sun touches on the Coastal U.S. and watching it rise over the Atlantic Ocean and scattered islands in the distance was absolutely majestic. After soaking in the view I began to descend down the trail. Everything reminded me of the Appalachian Trail. Ferns, multiple shades of moss covering boulders and ledges, tree roots twisting through rocks and crevices. The hike led me back to Jordan Pond and eventually to the dorms for a much-needed nap.
