This is a live performance recording (20/11/2022) from A Christmas Wish Fundraiser for Ukraine. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Lysenko was a Ukrainian composer from the late romantic period, who is often referred to as the father of modern Ukrainian classical music. Although very famous in Ukraine, Lysenko is not well known outside of his homeland. This romance is also hardly known, yet in the process of learning and performing it, I realized how much of a gem it is! The outer sections are very expressive and melodic, whilst the middle presents its own technical challenge, as it is in octaves, and this makes it tricky to maintain a smooth melodic line. Despite being only a few minutes long, there is really so much to explore in this piece, being packed full of meaning and intricacies.
