World Premier - Permanent presence of an octobass at the OSM

In 2016, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal became the first orchestra in the world to feature an octobass in its roster. Native to Europe, this octobass was built at the Jean-Jacques Pagès workshop in 2010. This is a perfect reproduction of the original model of Jean-Baptiste Villaume, perfected in 1851. It is 11.10 feet tall, weighs 290 pounds, and has a few hundred pieces, including 237 making up the complex mechanism of the instrument. The octobass is graciously made available to the OSM by Canimex (Drummondville). Video director: Ian Cameron
