Tips to Prepare and Crack CAT exams For ones who desire to get into business administration programs can prepare and attend CAT exams. The CAT 2015 will be held on 29th of November in two sessions in one day. The CAT exam has a paper of 100 questions of three sections which are quantitative ability with 34 questions, data interpretation & logical reasoning with 32 questions, and verbal and reading comprehension with 34 questions each. The duration of the exam is for about 180 minutes with multiple choice questions. The CAT pattern has been changed this year from 170 minutes exam to 180 minutes where students can allocate 1 hour for each section. Exam pattern The CAT exam is a computer based exam which has mixed multiple choice as well as non-multiple choice questions. When it’s non-multiple choice the students are to use keyboard to type answers. The other major change in CAT exams this year is that students are allowed to use the basic on-screen calculator for calculations. Each question will carry three marks along with negative marking for wrong answers. Non-MCQ’s will not have negative marking and no marks will be provided or rejected for unattempt questions. Materials for preparation For ones who are preparing for CAT can choose Arun Sharma book which is simple and easy to understand. For basic quantitative aptitude NCERT and CBSE’s 8th, 9th and 10th books are useful, in the same manner Abhijit Guha’s or Nishit Sinha quantitative aptitude can be studied. To excel in data interpretation and logical reasoning 3rd edition of CAT by Arun Sharma can be used. For verbal ability, reading comprehension and logical reasoning Arun Sharma, Nishit Sinha and R.S.Agarwal can be used. Apart from these there are a number of books, sample papers, mock test etc. available online. Tips to prepare for CAT For students who are baffled with CAT exams, here are a few tips which can be followed to crack exams. The students should know their strength and weakness, if a student is weak at some section in the paper, then he needs to concentrate on that area. Initially students can look and practice solved questions in the book and then move on to unsolved ones. Once you’re well-versed with all the problems, taking up mock test and previous CAT papers is suggested. Revising and brushing through all the fundamentals is important in order to obtain a good sore. Students should make sure to maintain time and work out any plan while preparing for CAT exam, in that manner time versus target is important. It is expected that the verbal section of CAT would be more difficult and hence more concentration towards verbal ability is required. Parajumbles and reading comprehension are few complex topics to be focused on. CAT can be an exam with all fundamentals but learning all the shortcuts can be beneficial to solve problems faster. Prepare a time table, dedicate few hours every day for CAT and work hard as you need to reach a higher goal.
