Immigration is very crowded I had to go through immigration at the domestic transfer point, and the line was much longer than I had imagined. Fortunately, I was able to use the priority lane, so I hardly had to wait in line, but it still took about 10 minutes. However, the line was 5 to 6 times longer than that, so it would have taken about an hour if I had gone normally (at that time). I saw some information that you are asked to show your return ticket, but I was not told anything, only my passport. I saw some people showing it on their cell phone screen, but I guessed it was probably for the purpose of monitoring illegal stay. If you do not have through-baggage, you will have to pick up your checked baggage at the turnstile and deposit it. (I generally do not check baggage even when abroad, so I skip this part. It is a little bit far to move between international and domestic terminals. In Ho Chi Minh City, you have to walk, and in Hanoi, you have to take a free shuttle bus. It may be because it was late at night in Hanoi, but the shuttle bus did not leave until all the passengers had gathered, and it took more than 20 minutes to get to the terminal, including the waiting time. I don't think you can move by walk. The security check was very crowded. I was able to use the priority lane so I didn't have to wait in line, but there was a huge line (especially in Hanoi). Hanoi Airport is a hub airport for both domestic and international flights, so it is basically crowded. I used it on a Tuesday in late February, a weekday in off-season, and it was a late-night flight, but it was extremely crowded.
