Becoming a parent went hand in hand with pursuing a career change in climate activism for Dr. Genevieve Guenther. Concerned about the world her son would inherit, the Renaissance literature scholar delved into the rhetoric of our current crisis to rethink how we talk about climate change and policy, including the phasing out of coal, oil, and methane. She authored "The Language of Climate Politics: Fossil-Fuel Propaganda and How to Fight It" (Oxford UP, 2024), which shines light on ways to productively unpack propaganda that justifies the fossil-fuel economy in an effort to spark transformative change. Interested in deepening your understanding of climate communication? Tune into this conversation with Guenther, moderated by Metcalf alum and Washington Post climate reporter Daniel Wolfe, for an engaging public lecture hosted by the URI Department of English, the Metcalf Institute, and the Harrington School of Communication and Media.
