Leptomeningeal Neoplastic Meningitis: A very Rare condition. Also known as Leptomeningeal Metastases (LM). Secondary to cancer and in 4-6% of all patients with advanced stage cancer (with metastasis). Less is diagnosed in life, compared to a larger asymptomatic and undiagnosed cases. But higher diagnosis at post-mortem/autopsy The Brain and Spinal Cord are surrounded by three membranes: Dura matter, Arachnoid and Pia matter. The Arachnoid + Pia = Leptomeninges. The CSF ,Arteries and Tumor cells are found in subarachnoid space, sandwiched between Arachnoid and Pia matter. Cells can enter the CSF hematogenously or brain parenchyma direct extension or choroid plexus, vertebral, subdural, epidural, retrograde invasion along CNS or primary tumor of meninges e.g. lymphoma, melanoma, sarcomas.
