A New Beginning in Barwaaqo

Displaced by conflict, droughts, and floods in regions like Bay, Bakool, and the Jubbas, hundreds of families fled to Baidoa seeking safety — only to face new struggles in overcrowded, informal camps. This short documentary follows the story of Fatima and 1,150 vulnerable families who were once at constant risk of eviction and flooding. Through the Barwaaqo Northern Extension — a life-changing relocation effort — they were given permanent homes, land titles, access to clean water, and, most importantly, dignity. These interventions were made possible by the Nagaad Project, funded by the World Bank through the Federal Government of Somalia, and implemented by IOM in collaboration with Baidoa Municipality, the Government of Southwest State, NRC, and other key partners.
