PORI, FINLAND | Exploring Finland’s West Coast

PORI, FINLAND: A day trip from Tampere to Pori - a city situated on Finland’s West Coast. I spent a few hours walking around the city centre, church, waterfront, old houses & parks - come & see for yourself. 🇫🇮 See more of my travel vlogs from Finland here → http://bit.ly/mwt_finland I took a ninety minute train journey from Tampere all the way over to the West Coast of Finland where I discovered Pori - a small city that’s been rebuilt nine times over the centuries. I started off in the city centre where I spotted a local market in the market square selling lots of fruit, vegetables and snacks. This part of Pori is modern with lots of relatively new buildings, however I did manage to find some slightly older houses and a town hall hiding nearby. After finding the waterfront and imagining what it would be like on a warm Summer’s day I walked over to Pori Central Church where I learned about the unusual iron spire, photographed the sculptures lining the walls of the cemetery and walked through a well-kept memorial garden. When I heard that Pori had burned down nine times I had to find out why - I got my answer whilst visiting the oldest parts of the city where the streets are still made up of old wooden buildings. As devastating as nine fires must have been there was still one Finnish city that burned down more often! From the old colourful wooden houses to a more modern area of Pori, I walked past high rise apartment blocks until I reached the Pori Water Tower and historic Käppärä Cemetery which contains the country’s most famous Mausoleum. My next task was to cross the Kokemäen River and see the parks and beaches of Kirjurinluoto - a place that provides some wonderful views back across towards central Pori.
