The Memory Project is an inspiring organization that invites art teachers and their students to create and donate portraits to children and young people around the world who have faced substantial challenges, such as neglect, abuse, loss of parents, violence, and extreme poverty. After 6 years of war in Syria, nearly 6 million children now depend on aid, with almost half forced to flee their homes. American high school students recently sent portraits to Syrian children in Za’atari refugee camp, Jordan. The children were delighted with the results. The purpose of the portraits is to help children feel valued and important, to know that many people care, and to act as meaningful pieces of personal history.
