Songea, Tanzania. John Mbano is on a mission to find the human remains of his great-grandfather, Songea Mbano, who was executed by the German colonial army. The Empty Grave was screened in Tanzania for the first time at the Ajabu Ajabu AV House on June 28th 2024. The screening was well attended with close to 250 people from different walks of life. It was followed by an engaging panel on restitution and memory. The panel was led by Alma Simba from the University of Dar es Salaam and we heard from the film co-director Cece Mlay, Prof. Bushozi from the Archaeology department and third year History student David Makala.
