Sound Test HITACHI TRK-8270 aka Padisco-8270 Boombox

This is a HITACHI TRK-8270 aka Padisco-8270. The 80's classic boombox sold in Japan for 68,000 yen. Despite the very simple design both inside and outside, it has a nice sound as you can see in this sound test video. The all capacitors and the electronics were OK, it just needed deep cleaning of the controllers and the electronic contacts. However, when it comes to the cassette deck restoration, it suddenly pulls me down into the deep swamp. After cleaning the most of the moving parts and replaced the drive belts to the new ones, it did not pass the test. The main problem of this cassette deck was take-up reel. Until I completed the restoration, I damaged more than 3 cassette tapes. One of them was my favorite HITACHI sound test tape which I always used in the sound test. There was a combination of failure for the take-up reel problem. 1: The small moving metal part was stuck to the dried-up grease. 2: The slippage cloth inside of the take-up reel pulley was worn out. 3: Drive tire on the take-up reel was worn out. I removed these problems one by one. Even I thought I had completed the restoration work, the problem just came back and I was kind of overwhelmed by the endless fight. But, at the end of the day it started playing great music and makes me super happy. After spending many hours with these vintage Boomboxes, I almost felt as if they are my old friends who just came back from their long journey and enjoy the reunion together. They have scratches, scuff marks, cracks and chips, but they still have a great soul inside. So when I send it back to the owner, I really want him/her to treat these old friends with very gentle manor to enjoy the long and happy life together.
