In this episode, we’re heading off the beaten path to explore Vattavada, one of Kerala’s most charming hill villages, located about 45 km from Munnar along the Kerala–Tamil Nadu border. At an altitude of nearly 6,500 feet above sea level, Vattavada enjoys a cool climate year-round and is fondly called the “Vegetable Garden of Kerala” for its rich cultivation of strawberries, carrots, cabbages, garlic, and more. 🌿 Jeep Safari in Vattavada In the morning, we set off on a jeep safari to uncover the hidden gems of Vattavada. The safari costs around ₹2500 (for up to 5 people) and takes a little over 2 hours, guided by our friendly driver Chandran. Here are the highlights from our adventure: Nayattu View Point – where the Malayalam movie Nayattu was filmed, with misty sunrise views over terrace farms, villages, and waterfalls. Seven Hills View Point – overlooking Udumalpet and the route to Kodaikanal (forest permission required). A glimpse of tribal settlements, where traditional mud houses are now being rebuilt into cement homes with government support. Chilanthiyar Waterfalls & Cave – a short trek leads to the falls and a hidden cave, making for an adventurous stop. Pazathottam View Point – breathtaking valley views, terrace farms, and even a campsite with colorful tents, along with a cozy tea shop to recharge. A Hidden Waterfall & Valley Viewpoint – offering one of the clearest views of Vattavada compared to other points. Beauty View Point – near the Honey Museum, with sweeping panoramas of farms and valleys. Honey House & Honey Museum – a perfect final stop to shop for farm-fresh products like garlic, homemade jam, wine, vegetables, fruits, and delicious honey. Why Visit Vattavada? Vattavada is more than just a scenic escape — it’s a blend of nature, culture, farming traditions, and warm local hospitality. From mist-covered valleys to hidden caves and waterfalls, every stop here tells a story. If you’re in Munnar and want to explore beyond the usual tourist spots, this jeep safari in Vattavada is an unforgettable experience. ✨ Travel Tips: Keep your hotel booking confirmation handy if crossing the forest check-post after 5 PM (network coverage is poor). Best visited between November–March for cool weather and strawberry harvest season. Book a local jeep safari for the best experience — My guide Chandran’s contact 8547897561.
